Hi everyone, it’s me again! June is far from my favorite month – as a lecturer, I have loads of assignments and theses to grade, which is something I absolutely don’t like.
This year, however, I have actually been looking forward to June. And for one reason only: it is Nani Iro month! Those of you who follow my blog know how big a fan I am of Naomi Ito’s fabrics. I have made so many garments and blankets in her double gauze works of art that I don’t even dare to count them.
One of the first Nani Iro fabrics I used, however, was not a double gauze, but a lawn fabric. I was so happy with this balloon dress, that Norah never wore it except at the photo shoot. As I was waiting for that perfect occasion to wear it, Norah outgrew the dress. Good thing I have little Ava to grow into it soon!
Anyhow, the point I wanted to make with this seemingly irrelevant story, is that I have been waiting ever since for Nani Iro to start using lawn again. And this season, they finally did, so it wasn’t very difficult to pick the perfect fabric for this month’s Makers project.
Sen Ritsu Compass A is a gorgeous lawn in fresh colors, perfect for a breezy Summer dress (I know, I know, another dress. I promiss I’ll be making something different soon!). I drew a simple sleeveless pattern, to which I added a little reference to a previous Makers post. Can you spot it in the picture below?
The gathers make it a bit hard to identify, but the bottom of the bodice has the same shape as that of my Lua sleepsack pattern, used by Cherie in her April post 🙂
I also did a little experiment in the back of the bodice. I like the result, even though I made both halves overlap the wrong way, and therefore had to put the button on the inside instead on the outside of the back. Oops.
Norah loves this dress – not so much for the flowers as for the bees and butterflies which pop up here and there. She loves to spot them on the dress, and show them off to everyone.
And I love the fabric just as much! The Sen Ritsu fabrics come in five more colorways, with four of them printed on double gauze.
I’ll see you back at the end of this month, when I’ll be using my first Nani Iro knit. Exciting!

Please don´t stop making dresses! When are you going to start with women´s patterns? I promise to make my version in nani iro! I can understand that Norah loves her dress, I would love to search for butterflies and bees with her on the fabric!
Great series!
